I remember the first time the plexiglass I felt between me and other people melt away. It was like I was suddenly seeing, hearing, and feeling in HD. This is the beginning of thawing out from a lifetime of dissociation after sexual and religious trauma.
Once I learned to appreciate my dissociation for how it helped me, I was able to find ways of being in my body that didn't overwhelm me, and I went onto to study as a Somatic Sexologist so I could help others do the same.
